ReFashioned by A Fitting Connection

Enterprise name: ReFashioned by A Fitting Connection

What’s the trading activity

A Fitting Connection is a serviced based business that supports those who produce their own textile based product (most commonly clothing).

ReFashioned is our future. We want to see more business and community organisations reduce the amount of textile that is sent to landfill by using reclaimed textiles to create new products. We supports these business and organisations with our product development and manufacturing knowledge.

What’s the social or environmental cause your enterprise addresses?

We address the almost 14 thousand kilograms of textiles being sent to landfill every ten minutes in Australia.

We address it in such a slow and methodical way and avoid mass production again which is one of the main factors that contribute to this statistic.

What is the biggest challenge?

Finding businesses and organisations that are openminded to working with reclaimed textiles. Understand the challenges that lay ahead and that despite these are willing to take them on.

knext Career Design

knext Career Design

Enterprise name: knext Career Design

What’s the trading activity

knext Career Design a social enterprise created to prepare culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people including people of colour for the world of work.

We do this by co-designing a plan around the CALD person; then empowering them with information, tools and support to design a sustainable career that we hope will serve the individual, their community and beyond – today and into the future.

The result is an adaptable, purpose-led career roadmap that aligns to one’s circumstances, personality, strengths and interests. In addition, we empower the individual to put in place strategies to manage career barriers.

Whether someone is kicking off their career, wanting a career change, not sure about what to do, feeling stuck, or would like some guidance on further studies, we are here to help and cheer them on to success.

What’s the social or environmental cause your enterprise addresses?

knext has identified a number of opportunities that we hope will help empower people from ethnically diverse backgrounds:

1) addressing the discrimination that CALD people face when pursuing their career and/or employment;
2) by forming strategic partnerships, build capacity through careers education and career design using design thinking approaches;
3) improving education and employment outcomes for CALD people that we hope, will be meaningful and most importantly, sustainable;
4) partnering with social impact players who are on a mission to tackle disadvantage and inequalities faced by CALD people

What is your hope for the future?

Our hope for the future is an equitable and just society where CALD people succeed in the future world of work and live fulfilled, dignified lives.

Clann Australia Pty Ltd

Clann Australia Pty Ltd

Enterprise name: Clann Australia Pty Ltd

What’s the trading activity?

Our customers are the millions of families that still rely on friends, neighbors, extended family, work colleagues and others to help provide informal care for children, elderly and family members with a disability that for one reason or another are left behind by government subsidised care services.

We upskill some of these informal carers and turn their care experience into small businesses on our platform providing a higher standard of informal care to other families in their communities in home based settings. We provide access to an innovative platform, entry level induction programs, pathways to higher qualifications and a range of support resources and information.

Our social enterprise purpose is to create new pathways to employment delivering essential services that help reduce the risks of disadvantage.

What is the biggest challenge?

We are currently inducting family carers for families needing care and support for children, elderly and those with a disability.

Like every two sided marketplace it is a challenge to build up families on one side without having carers on the other and vice versa.

However as the impact of COVID-19 becomes more evident on the employment market we are seeing more interest in the opportunities we offer to set up and operate a genuine small business on our platform where carers are very well supported and can choose their hours, rates, services and family clients.

What is your hope for the future?

Our hope for the future is to build the levels of community interest and support needed to create a higher standard of informal care nationally for families left behind by existing services, effectively revillaging our society where families are properly supported to care for families in home based settings.
