In a photo on the left of this banner a man holding a possum skin is talking to a class of people in a dimly lit library or museum. On the right are the words “Building Cultural Competency and Cultural Safety” and the logo for Koorie Heritage Trust inc - ‘Gnomon Danna Murray Kor-ki’

Join SENVIC for this online workshop to create culturally safe workplaces

This hybrid workshop delivered by the Koorie Heritage Trust invites participants to attend a four hour workshop (with hourly breaks) on cultural competency and cultural safety. Choose one of three dates throughout October.

Begin your journey towards creating a workplace that embraces diversity and supports inclusion through mutual respect, shared understanding and experiences.

The Workshop enables participants to gain the most out of the program through group activities. Tickets are strictly limited to provide all participants the opportunity to engage with the facilitator.

Join SENVIC for this online workshop to grow your sense of self through cultural awareness and cultural safety at work.

The Cultural Competency component supports participants to develop awareness of:

  • Aboriginal culture and identity;
  • The strengths of Aboriginal culture and people;
  • Making the connection and understanding the impact of colonisation and past policy for Aboriginal people today;
  • Developing the capacity to be more understanding and responsive to Aboriginal colleagues and clients.

Participants will then complete a 2-hour session on Cultural Safety where through a combination of presentations, individual exercises and group discussion they will work through the process of self and organisational reflection to:

  • Enable individuals and organisations to reflect on their own values and beliefs;
  • Enable individuals to reflect on, and understand, bias and unconscious bias;
  • Understand how these may influence the workforce and workplace;
  • Support the creation of a culturally safe workforce and workplace.

This workshop is ideal for organisations who are serious about raising the cultural competency/awareness of staff who:

  • Are working with and delivering services to Aboriginal peoples;
  • Have identified the need for Aboriginal cultural awareness in order for their employees to build stronger relationships and enhanced respect with Aboriginal peoples;
  • Understanding the importance to provide a workplace that promotes and practices cultural safety for its staff and clients.

The facilitators create a safe, trusting, and friendly environment to allow participants to share information and ask questions in a comfortable atmosphere and safe space.

This course is offered by SENVIC to SENVIC members. Not yet a member? Sign up here.
