Online Focus Group on Social Procurement for all businesses in civil construction
Monday 27th February,
1pm-2:30pm

Read more:
Help us understand the support you need to navigate social procurement in the civil construction sector.
- Are you, or have you in the past, worked across the road construction supply chain in any capacity?
- Do you want to build your capability to access work in roads?
- Want to hear the views from other players working across the civil construction sector?
This focus group aims to voice your views into what is needed to accelerate social procurement in civil construction.
What’s in it for me?
- Hear latest updates from Major Road Projects Victoria’s (MRPV) recent workshop on resources for Accelerating Social Procurement in Roads (ASPiR)
- Have your say about what capabilities you believe are required to help you better navigate social procurement in the civil construction sector
- Connect with people in the roads sector and contribute to positive change in social procurement
Who else will be there?
- A mix of social benefit suppliers, Aboriginal businesses, and contractors from across the road supply chain.
About ASPiR
Accelerating Social Procurement in Roads (ASPiR) is a new resource MRPV is developing to provide their partners in the industry with access to the capability they require to embed social procurement (including inclusive employment) across the entire road construction supply chain and to make it easier for everyone to achieve social procurement outcomes.
The vision for ASPiR is to create sustainable, social change for the communities where MRPV operates that lasts beyond the life of our projects.
The MRPV Social Value and Inclusion (SVI) team are seeking to work collaboratively with the sector to achieve the vision for ASPiR. They have contracted a Consortium for the initial phases of ASPiR made up of Think Impact, ArcBlue, CRSE Group (a social enterprise) and Nerdu Badji Education (an Aboriginal business).
CRSE Group and Nerdu Badji Education will facilitate this focus group.
MRPV want to create opportunities for all organisations working in the civil construction sector to share their views on what these resources should include, how they should be delivered and what would be most useful to help embed social procurement more effectively across their projects.
As a first step, a workshop was held in December 2022 with a cross section of government, contractors, social benefit suppliers, third party intermediaries and employment services to help MRPV design a Roadmap for ASPiR. The ASPiR roadmap aims to capture the vision for change and focus areas and goals to achieve the vision.
Participants of the December workshop fed back that they highly valued the opportunity to come into the room with a diverse group of stakeholders, learn from each other and collectively shape the future of social procurement.
MRPV is now looking to test these learnings with the broader sector, refine the strategies and understand more about what learning and development is needed through these focus groups.

As a scholar-practitioner he also develops research projects with universities to support industry development and support communities through sustainable strategies and technologies.
Jeremy will discuss systems thinking and ways we as scholars should adjust to the chaos of our specialties and accept the limitations of quantification. Jeremy will also discuss his recent talk in Amsterdam “discussing the relationship of arts and sciences in communicating global issues” and Ecuador “discussing the impacts of linear systems thinking and the need for circular systems when addressing issues”

Business for good: the size and economic contribution of social enterprise in Australia

Join Social Enterprise Australia as they launch groundbreaking research on the contribution of social enterprise to Australia, and deliver this to Canberra.
A social enterprise is a business, for good. They trade like any other business, but exist specifically to make the world a better place.
But their overall contribution to Australia has been little known – until now.
Social Enterprise Australia commissioned research to better understand the size and economic contribution of social enterprise in Australia. The research was done by Impact Tracks and funded by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation.
The resulting report shows that – despite limited Federal Government recognition and support – the social enterprise sector makes a significant contribution.
Imagine what could be possible with deeper Federal Government partnership with the sector, as other governments do in places like Canada and Scotland.
Bonus: Did you also know that 17th November is World Social Enterprise Day (#socialenterpriseday)? What better way to mark the day!
Join us online on November 17 to hear the research findings, celebrate our shared work , and to see the research hand-delivered to our colleagues in Canberra.

So What? This is your chance to advocate your needs, your lived experience, and your passion towards favourable policy change for work integrated social enterprise in Australia.
If we can take some of your pain away through making sense of the consultation process, then we know social enterprise will have a real opportunity to influence policy through their practitioner expertise and lived experience.

Information Session and Workshop 2 – Monday 28 Nov 1pm-2pm
- What we learnt from workshop 1 (We’ll be super brief, but it gives us context and focus for the next leg of the sprint)

How might we build a community platform where everyone, no matter their background or experience, can come together, listen, and become activators in our local ecosystems, communities and organisations?
That’s what this evening is about; coming together, connecting and imagining a regenerative Gippsland.
Our program
To spark inspiration, the evening will feature a screening of Regenerating Australia, a 17-minute documentary created by Regen Studios in partnership with WWF-Australia, with major philanthropic support from Shark Island Foundation.
The film is based on a four-month listening campaign, with a diverse group of Australians who shared their hopes and dreams for the country’s future. It is a new story for our nation: a story of empowerment. A story of solutions. A story of regeneration.
The screening will be followed by discussion and light supper. Connect with one another, to your local place and spark ideas for the work ahead – drawing on the film, and each other, for inspiration.

A little more about about the Gippsland Social Enterprise Collective
The Gippsland Social Enterprise Collective (GSEC) was established in early 2020 as a response to the Social Enterprise Network Victoria (SENVIC) initiative to support the establishment of a regional network to build a connected community of social enterprises, to facilitate access to learning and development opportunities, and to give practitioners an independent and collective voice.

Catalyst 2030 is the global movement mobilising to accelerate the achievement of the UN SDGs by 2030.
The Social Enterprise Scholar Practitioner Network (SESPN) was formed to create a closer bond, intersectional identity and knowledge exchange between social enterprise practitioners and academia.
Following the Social Enterprise World Forum 2022, SESPN is presenting two speakers at our regular monthly virtual meet-ups.
At the Tuesday session, join us as we hear from Professor Eddie Blass.
Professor Eddie Blass left her academic career to pursue the Inventorium, a scaleable online education platform and high school curriculum that is systemically different from current education systems. She has worked in Business Schools and Education Faculty, and is also a qualified school teacher.
In working with the students in the Inventorium, Eddie has become enlightened as to how teenagers are using gaming to change their world, and how this could translate into a new world order and future if it were to be realised. This session questions the extent to which our own paradigms and understandings are limiting the impact of these changes, and discusses a research agenda to help progress and change.
Also check out our Thursday session with Jeremy Hale.

Join us to unwind, recalibrate, connect, chat and celebrate at our inaugural meetup of our newest network.
The Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF2022) reminded us that we thrive when we’re connected and supported, we grow when we share knowledge and we flourish when we are not alone in our social enterprise journeys. While this energy lingers, let’s bring the momentum to Melbourne – social enterprise style.
This is an informal evening, and we can’t promise an agenda. We can promise free bar snacks, drinks at bar prices, great humans and awesome conversations. Meet people who have founded social enterprises, work for one and/or are supporters of the social enterprise sector! Maybe we’ll talk about our work or interests in the social impact sector, maybe we won’t! But we know we’ll relax and have great conversations with great people.
If you are under 35 and curious about social enterprises, if you work at a social enterprise, have founded one and/or are a supporter of the social enterprise movement, we want you to join us.
Even if you’re remotely interested in social enterprises but don’t know where to start – come along! A mate who you think might like to meet other social enterprise folks is also very welcome!
While this event is focused on young leaders coming together, EVERYONE is invited if you want to get to know them, cheer them on or support their work.
Join us to unwind, bask in the good energy and celebrate our collective role in the social enterprise movement.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at bar prices
Free snacks provided by SENVIC
